ADC Theatre News
2010-11 Academic Year Ends
The past twelve months in the ADC Theatre have shown audience numbers go from strength to strength, with over 62,000 tickets bought for productions in the Theatre (an increase of 15% on last year!), and many more tickets sold via ADC Ticketing for productions at other venues in Cambridge. The ADC is proud to embrace a range of theatre, from new writing to classic texts, brought to you by students of Cambridge University and local amateur groups. This year we have seen many productions supported by sell-out audiences, and we hope you look forward to joining us again as bookings go online for the launch of the Autumn Season.
Behind the scenes the Management Team of the ADC Theatre have been working hard to ensure that the ADC embraces the opportunities that arise throughout the year. Technological advances often present the chance to improve working practices, and this year the Theatre purchased a Genie Lift which gives safe motorised access to the lighting positions above the stage. Also we have been able to address environmental issues, with yet more energy efficient lighting installed throughout the building. But by far the biggest opportunity that the Theatre has had this year has been the refurbishment of the Corpus Playroom, a unique theatre space owned by Corpus Christi College with The Fletcher Players as the resident company. Summer Vacation 2011
As the curtain comes down on the Summer Season at the ADC Theatre, many groups from Cambridge will make the journey up to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival which runs throughout August. Cambridge audiences were lucky enough to get a taster of the Festival during the week of previews, featuring the brand new comedy To Have and to Hold. The EdFringe website has details of this show amongst the wealth of other productions during the month.
Previewed at the ADC Theatre back in June, and also at the Festival, will be the world-renowned Cambridge Footlights presenting their International Tour Show: Pretty Little Panic in the Pleasance Dome. The Cambridge Footlights have a strong presence at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and tipped for the top are a group of graduates known as Sheeps, performing at the Pleasance Courtyard.
While the front doors of the ADC Theatre may be closed, the stage will still be active with the Cambridge American Stage Tour preparing their production of Shakespeare's Macbeth. The troupe will fly out to New York and spend a month travelling down the east coast of the USA, visiting a wide range of venues along the way before returning for a week's run at the ADC. The show reliably sells out in October, so why not catch a preview in the first days of September, also at the ADC Theatre
The ADC Ticketing site provides a gateway to many other events in and around Cambridge, so while the Theatre is dark during August do take a look at the other events taking place, particularly the Cambridge Summer Music Festival.
