Far far away, in a small cottage named Chequers, Jack Beanstalk and his mum live a humble life where money is tight. To make ends meet, Jack sells his beloved cow Daisy in Bridgetown in exchange for five ‘magic’ beans from the renowned Evil Bean Merchant. His mother is devastated at the trade-off, but knows all about mistakes, having bean there done that. But fear not! Jack is distracted from this woe after meeting the love of his life, Jill, who will follow him to the ends of the earth…
… and indeed up a beanstalk. Join Jack and Jill as they navigate the high-altitude world of an insecure Giant, Claudia Winkleman, a golden goose and Guinness the Harp and follow them around the long winding corridors of Castle Mound. Wait why is the Evil Bean Merchant here, again?
Come and watch this year’s unmissable festive delight featuring love, adventure and...beans: the CUADC/Footlights Pantomime 2025: Jack and the Beanstalk!
Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum,
It’s always been just Jack and his mum,
But the times are a’changing and money is tight,
So beloved cow Daisy is sold in the night;
Jack needed riches but sold her for beans,
Now his mother is angry, a terrible scene!
And then overnight, something strange did occur;
A twisting and turning of leaves from the earth,
Then in the morning, when Jack did awake,
An enormous green beanstalk did tremble and shake!
So up to the top does Jack bravely climb,
But his true love Jill follows closely behind;
On both of their instincts they must be reliant
As they enter a castle... home to a Giant;
Riches galore, a golden Goose too!
But can they escape the clutches of doom?
What will Jack choose, riches or love?
All is revealed in the castle above…

The ADC Theatre is Britain's oldest University playhouse, today administered and maintained by the University of Cambridge. Plays have been presented on the site since 1855, when the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club (CUADC) was founded, and the society met and performed in the back room of the Hoop Inn, which stood almost exactly where the ADC Theatre stands today. Today, the ADC Theatre is the centre of University drama in Cambridge, run almost entirely by students with no Faculty involvement.
