Junayd Islam, creator of Desert Thirst and Jerusalem Winds (Corpus Playroom, January 2025), is back with another original play to enrapture audiences and inspire introspection.
1984 Revolution of the Soul is an intergenerational, cross-cultural dialogue with Orwell's dystopian novel. Retelling the famous story, the play calls to mind contemporary politics and technologies we take for granted to enhance - and sometimes challenge - Orwell’s admonitions. Going further, Junayd intersperses the original plot with Shakespearean poetry and Sufi tales, revealing a spiritual dimension to Orwell’s premonitions.
This is more than a theatrical dramatisation of Nineteen Eighty-Four. This is a production driven by the desire for love and meaning that will leave audiences with existential questions.
This production is suitable for ages 16 and over.

The Corpus Playroom is owned by Corpus Christi College, and managed by the University of Cambridge through the ADC Theatre. The College drama society, the Fletcher Players, are the resident company.
The L-shaped studio is Cambridge's primary fringe space, showcasing a variety of productions, with an emphasis on new writing. Seasons are programmed simultaneously with the ADC Theatre.
