Falklands War veteran Tommy returns to the islands seeking closure. While he tends the grave of an enemy soldier, his child asks him about the war. Tommy immerses us in a fantastical world where cartoon-style characters the Tin-Pot Foreign General and the Old Iron Woman battle over the island. But the soldiers fighting are real; their sacrifice deemed a small price to pay for the triumph of conquest. Can Tommy reconcile his feelings about the war and his part in it?
Based on Raymond Briggs' satirical book and with an 80s inspired soundtrack, Sad Little Island explores the human costs of powerful leaders seeking personal glory. Following a showcase performance earlier this year, this is the first semi-staged, full-length run of this original musical.
This production is suitable for ages 12 and over.
